I refuse to testify!

Sander invited me to borrow his pulpit from time to time, and to use it as I choose to spread a bit of my own gospel, and I have declined. As a bold stand on journalistic ethics, I refuse to ever become one. Days have passed since he made the offer, and I have been steadfast in preserving my right to remain silent. I shall be unmoved. I will be like my journalistic hero, Judith Miller, of whom the New York Times said,

Reporters from other news organizations have endured longer jail time in the same important cause over the years, but for us and we hope for others, it should be clear after 41 days in a Virginia jail that Ms. Miller is not going to change her mind. She appears unwavering in her mission to safeguard the freedom of the press to do its job effectively. If she is not willing to testify after 41 days, then she is not willing to testify. It's time for the judge and the prosecutor to let Ms. Miller go.

That's right. If Judy will not talk, I will not... what? ... oh...

It seems Scooter gave her the go-ahead. link

I wonder why it took them so long to communicate such a simple message as, "feel free to talk."

I suppose I have two theories.

Perhaps she will testify that she gave Libby the info, and she will refuse to say anything more. This will satisfy the narrow subpoena on which she was called, and protect her from criminal contempt charges. By the time they can bring her back in and compel testimony as to her source, she will be able to run out the clock on what remains of the final month of the investigation.

My other theory, on why it took so long for Rove's office to make the waiver of confidentiality clear to Ms. Miller, is somewhat simpler. It merely involves the acoustic problems created when both the speaker and the listener have their heads up their asses.

At any rate, I guess I will testify a little bit in the coming days after all. As a general rule, I will probably not rant on the events of the day in the way I did this time. Instead, I think I will either focus on the politics of my local district, or sometimes go the opposite direction and look at some larger themes and memes. Either way, I will trust Sander to cover the mainland, and devote my time to some of the interesting coastlines.

Details to follow.

Holy mother of......

Delay gets Hammered!

I can't help but wonder if this is bad timing.... Sure the trial will take a year at least which means that delay will have to run in '06 with this hanging over his head, but this guy can take crap and turn it into gold. The spinners are already saying that Ronnie Earle is a leftie stooge, never mind the fast that he has prosecuted many more dems than repubs. Link

Will the right wing come down hard and spin this as a plot by democrats to take back the congress, or will people start to see the light....that one party controlling all branches of government is a bad thing.

Another Day In Hell

Today 'Brownie' sat calmly and told the world he thought he did a pretty good job under the circumstances. He said that he tried to tell the powers that be that the storm was serious but they would not listen. Right wingers are blaming the media for 'making up' the devastation of Katrina, that the whole convention center and Superdome thing was made up.

And who can blame them? So far the administration has been able to twist the truth like balloon animals and no one has called them on it. The average Joe Wal-Mart could not care less what the intricate lies of the white house could mean to them. So far they have sat back and let the bushies take away their ability to file for bankruptcy while allowing credit card companies to stalk the people who can least afford their 20% finance fees. They have let bush talk about keeping america safe while doing Nothing to protect them. they have let Haliburton and the wealthiest americans raid the government surplus until there is nothing left for hurricane relief, the Iraq war and any other catastrophe that bush and co. have not planned for.

But wait..... Why does the new fox "news" poll show that 41% of americans are happy with the way bush is doing his job. With all the spin and fake news, is someone really paying attention besides us dyed in the wool dems. My dad has been saying for a couple of years that the pendulum has to swing back to the left eventually. In '06, people HAVE to realize that if they don;t like the way the country is being run, maybe they should vote out the people who have run it with no checks or balances for the last 5 years.

We can only hope.... and talk....and donate....and kick ass in '06
